Miss South Carolina USA Prepares to Jump!

Published: July 31, 2012

Chester, SC - The stereotype of a typical model is literally being thrown out the window next week when Miss South Carolina USA 2012 replaces her sash for a jumpsuit as she embarks on a journey beginning two and half miles above the state of South Carolina.

Miss Powell is stepping out of her comfort zone and will be joined by CBS' Survivor: One World star Jay Byars on a skydive hosted at Skydive Carolina in Chester, SC. ??Miss Powell is no stranger to the limelight having received accolades outside the pageant world thanks to her extraordinary singing voice and acting talents. Last year she made her solo debut at the Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall and performed in the New York Philharmonic's production of Janacek's "The Cunning Little Vixen." The success on the NY stage provided the opportunity to partner with Edwin McCain who helped produce her self-titled debut EP last year. Furthermore, Miss Powell has been noted for her performances on the big screen when she appeared in the movie "Something Borrowed" starring Kate Hudson. Erika has also appeared in TV episodes of "Ugly Betty", "White Collar", "Royal Pains" and "The Good Wife," as well as commercials for Kohl's and Lowe's.
?While studying for her degree in 2005 at Furman University, Erika arrived on the national pageant stage as Miss South Carolina in the Miss America competition where she was a top 10 finalist and preliminary talent winner. From that experience, Erika felt compelled to compete once again and decided to pursue the title of Miss South Carolina USA which she achieved last November in Charleston, SC.

Miss Powell will make her skydive on Wednesday, August 8th at 10:00am at Skydive Carolina.

Skydive Carolina is in its 26th year of operation executing 30,000 jumps annually from its three aircraft.
